The race and loft for this new event is situated within 5km of 3 of the major theme parks (Dream World, Movie World and Wet ‘n’ Wild) making this the pigeon event the whole family will want to go to. The loft is also located just 15 minutes from Surfers Paradise, on 10 acres, with plenty of room for spectators, and with a good clearing for the birds, free of powerlines and fences.
The loft is large enough to accomodate 900 birds (300 paid birds plus 600 reserves). Each entry (including GST) will cost $440, which entitles you to two reserves with an upfront running fee of $30 for each reserve. Each reserve paid for prior to the 3 races will cost an additional $410. No race point or distance will be advertised, rather it will be a targeted amount of hours on the wing to ensure birds arriving on the day, as well as ensuring a race that is not considered too short or too easy. The first race will be a targeted 2 1/2 hours, the second race will be a targeted 4 1/2 hours, with the feature race having a target of 9 hours to be held during September 2012. Subject to weather and wind conditions on the given day, it is likely to be a race of between 500 and 700km with the most likely flight direction being north.
After moving to the Gold Coast 12 months ago, I have decided after early semi-retirement, that I have both the time and the level of commitment required, to make this one of Australia’s biggest and most succesful One Loft pigeon races. My ability as a flyer is respected by many, having won back to back federation championships in 2006 and 2007, finishing 3rd in both 2008 and 2009. I also won 13 Federation races in my last 6 years of competition, more than any other competitor during this period in a 70 membership federation. Along with my own success, I have as my right hand man and second in charge, Jade Sheldrick. Jade finished 1st and 3rd in the QPF Averages in Brisbane with 200+ flyers during 2003 and 2004. As well as this, he has assisted various flyers from various parts of Australia to compete at the highest level with his microscope and medication expertise, as well as ongoing help and support from one of Australias leading avian veterinarians, Dr Colin Walker. Jade will also be convoyer for all 3 races.
